What is Thai sweet and sour sauce made of?

Thai sweet and sour sauce is typically made of lime juice and tamarind paste (for the sour), palm sugar (for the sweet), and fish sauce (for the salty, umami accents). Shallots, chilli and garlic can also be added if you’re making the sauce from scratch and wanting to add some extra flavour. Sweet and sour sauce is super popular throughout Thai cuisine, but you can use it to flavour your chicken, beef and pork recipes!

Is sweet and sour sauce spicy?

Thai sweet and sour sauce is typically mild to moderate in its spice level. Its trademark flavour tends to be quite tangy, however, if you make Thai sweet and sour sauce at home, you can adjust the spice levels to make it as mild or as hot as you like!
